Residential Soils Investigations A typical soils investigation involves drilling bore holes to sample the soils and bedrock. The soil samples are tested for their engineering properties such as strength, soil classification and swell potential. From this information, the type of foundation best suited for a new building or addition can be determined, as well as other design parameters for the structural engineering of the foundation.
